I went to Shipham, Fairlands and finally Kings, where I became interested in Biology and Maths at GCSEs. Realising I wanted to study the brain, I took Maths, Biology and Psychology A-Levels, achieving AAA* and getting into Exeter University to study BSc Neuroscience in 2020. There, I learnt about the anatomy of the brain, drugs, hormones, disease and lots more, doing laboratory practicals and designing my own experiments.
I then completed my masters of science in Translational Neuroscience at the University of Sheffield. Here, I worked in a lab for my research project, looking for new treatments for Parkinson’s disease and studying other neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and ALS. Finishing this, I interned in a lab in Leeds for 3-months, investigating the mechanism of Fragile X Syndrome, the most common cause of inherited learning difficulties.
I then realised that I enjoyed the writing and communication of science more than the lab work. So, this January, I started working as a graduate Value Analyst for a global healthcare consultancy in Cheshire, called Adelphi. I get to research drugs and disease for pharmaceutical companies, and work alongside many other science graduates which I adore.
I want to encourage pupils to pursue maths and science, as it opens up so many amazing careers. Can send over a few lab photos if this would be good!
